Alerts: frequent and timestamped
Dashboards: on demand or hourly
Reviews: reconciled batches
Finance: publish after close
Define the latest acceptable time
Stockouts and equipment alerts may need minute-level response, while operating reviews often do not. Work backward from the business action and ask what wrong decision a delay would cause.
Real-time pipelines are harder
Incremental cursors, duplicates, deletes, retries, source load, and incomplete windows all affect whether the newest value is trustworthy. Track event time, arrival time, missing windows, and recovery state.
Use freshness tiers
Keep alerts frequent, dashboards on demand or hourly, and reconciled reviews in batches. Display data time, completeness, and ownership for every tier. BI0 frequency and connector boundaries require POC confirmation.
Validate more than latency
Measure P95 latency, completeness, duplication, recovery, source load, and business response. Review false alerts after a pilot and raise or lower frequency based on changed actions.
